The HTML5/SVG Mobile Viewer initiative will implement a new intelligent map view based on SVG technology. Rendering, selection, tooltips, and feature property display will be moved to the client.  This will improve performance on mobile devices and should improve MapGuide Server scalability since more work will be offloaded to the client.  This technology will be suitable for both mobile devices and SVG capable web browsers like Internet Explorer 9.

The new map view technology will be usable by any browser supporting HTML5 and SVG.  Basic SVG support is present in a variety of browsers including Safari on IOS 3.2+, Android 3.0+, Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 4+, and Chrome 12+.  The Can I use website provides more details on browser support for SVG.

Phase 1 of the project will focus on creating a proof of concept prototype.  Depending of funding availability and the complexity of the prototype, interaction with the MapGuide Server may be simulated using pre-generated GeoJSON streams and hard coded CSS or XSL stylization.
